API basics
Usage and credits
What the Texa API counts, how it draws down your prepaid credits, and how to read this month's usage.
Texa Desk is prepaid, like a phone's airtime: your account holds a balance of credits, and what Texa AI does draws it down. The API counts exactly as Texa Desk does, so a reply costs the same whether it went out on WhatsApp or through your app.

Texa API requests with a test key: free, up to 2,000 an account a month |
Prices per meter are on texadesk.com/pricing and in Texa Desk under Texa AI → Credits and billing.
The sandbox is free so you can build without paying: test keys make up to 2,000 requests an account
a month at no charge. Over that, they answer 402 until the next month (ask Texa if you need more
while you build).

When credits run out
The Texa API answers 402 (insufficient_credits) to anything that would be counted. Top up in
Texa Desk under Texa AI → Credits and billing, and requests work again at once.
- At zero, Texa AI is paused for the account, so conversations on your channels go to your team on the customer's next message. A top-up resumes it by itself (a pause a person set stays).
- Warnings go by email to your administrators at 20% and 5% of the credits last added, and at zero.
- Credits expire 12 months after the account last added credits; a notice goes 30 days before, and any top-up keeps the whole balance.
